Carolyn Barrera

Hi, my name is Carolyn Barrera. I was born in Peterborough, Ontario, and have recently moved back after living and working in Toronto and Brampton for the last 20 years. Before pursuing a career in lactation, I earned a Bachelor of Physical and Health Education from the University of Toronto, then worked in caseworker/counsellor roles.
I know what it's like to struggle with breastfeeding.
I had two children: Jessica, who is 25 now, and Jordan, who is 29. Despite the many challenges I faced, I breastfed both for over 1 year. After conquering my own challenges, I decided to pursue a career as a Lactation Consultant. It allowed me to combine my interest and education in health with my counselling background and personal breastfeeding experiences. In 2003, I became certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE).
I worked at the Doctors’ Breastfeeding Clinic in Brampton for 20 years before opening up my own private practice as a Lactation Consultant. I now offer home visits in Peterborough and surrounding communities as well as private virtual appointments for clients anywhere in Canada.
A physician referral is not required. Both home visits and virtual appointments can often be booked within 24-48 hours of your inquiry because I am available evenings and weekends as well as weekdays.
My goal is to help you find the same satisfaction in breastfeeding that I found with my children—and if you have any questions or concerns about breastfeeding or lactation support, please reach out!
I try my best to respond within 12 hours, and see you within 48 hours if your issue is urgent. Home visits can be arranged on weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
